Topia is a cloud-based communication software and Spatial Media platform that combines encrypted audio/video chat and playful world building tools. Its Creator Economy enables anyone who creates worlds with Topia to get paid for their efforts through its Partner Program.
Topia was launched in May of 2020 by co-founders Daniel Liebeskind (CEO) and Dylan Jones (Customer Experience) who — like many — struggled to connect in quarantine. It was one of the seven official venues for Burning Man 2020 and one of Product Hunt's eleven nominees for the 'Product of the Year' in 2020 — alongside Facebook's Oculus 2 and Clubhouse.
One Inc Cooperative is currently stewarding an equity stake in Topia. One Financial is providing startup engineering and John Zdanowski, former CFO of Second Life, is acting as Topia's interim Chief Financial Officer. One Studio is Topia's first Certified Agency Partner and hosts 20+ weekly gatherings across its portfolio of 50+ worlds. Brian Swichkow, a Managing Partner of One Studio and the first to be married on platform, is acting as Topia's interim Chief Marketing Officer.
All members of the Cooperative, called Citizens of One, can contribute many Types of Capital to any dimension of Topia and earn Resonance Dollars in return. Accruing in One Ledger, each Citizen's balance grants merit in directing the capital of the Cooperative.
Topia and One are separate companies, but — in many ways — symbiotic organisms.
I received a text from Daniel — a Founding Citizen of One Inc Cooperative and friend of many years — on May 8th of 2020 to share the "platform [he'd] been pouring his heart and soul into." It was the beginning of many things. A short time later, Dylan and the rest of the Topia team — Hayden Wu (Head of Creative), Chris Psiaki (Head of Engineering), and Danielle Diamond (Head of Operations) — became Citizens and began co-creating Topia with the Cooperative.
